Exhibition text:
Extending from a historical trajectory of conceptual art concerning the dematerialization of the art object, for 13 Rooms, Clark Beaumont presented Coexisting (2013), which explicitly positioned the artists as the artwork. The pair spent the duration of the exhibition on a plinth with a surface area only comfortable enough for one person to occupy. As two people but one artist, Clark Beaumont must continually navigate the complex terrains of negotiation and compromise that define collaborative artistic practice. Coexisting is a physical manifestation of this shared relationship as well as a durational challenge.
